Bathroom Wall Tile And Wallboard
Once your flooring is in place, you can complete the walls with tile, or just drywall or concrete so that you can do the finish work later. Building codes will require that you insulate exterior walls and protect them with a vapor barrier. It is common to use fiberglass insulation because it is easy to work with it. A four or six mil clear plastic vapor is typical. Staple the vapor barrier covering to the wall and ceiling framing, and tape holes or tears in the barrier. are often used in bathrooms. Wallboard is easy to mount and provides a smooth surface. Concrete ‘backerboard’ is solid, stable and durable. When you put up wallboard, you have to cut in the holes for the plumbing and wiring and you will have to use a water-resistant drywall material. Concrete ‘backerboard’ has a concrete core that is reinforced with fiberglass mesh. It is a typical ‘underlayment’ for whirlpool decks, shower walls and bathtub foundations. It is harder to cut than drywall. Use a straight edge to score a line (you will have to go over it a few times) with a hard carbide blade or a utility knife. Then ‘snap’ the board along the line you have cut to break off the piece you wish to install.
